Lectors

The ministry of the lector is not simply reading words aloud. It is a proclamation of the Living Word of God. Through the lector, Christ himself speaks to the assembly.

At St. Francis Borgia Parish, lectors are called to prepare carefully, to live prayerfully, and to proclaim faithfully, so that the community may truly hear God’s voice.

SPIRITUAL ATTITUDE OF THE LECTOR

  • Humility – it is God’s Word, not mine.
  • Prayerfulness – the lector must first hear the Word interiorly before proclaiming it.
  • Preparation – reading the passage in advance, studying its meaning, practicing delivery.
  • Reverence – tone of voice, posture, and attitude should reflect the sacredness of the Word.

If you want to become a lector, please contact Deacon Irek Mocarski at imocarski@borgiachicago.org or the parish office at (773) 625-1118.
